Supreme court disagreed with Tamil nadu's law permitting jallikattu stay


Since, last two months a major issue arises from Tamil nadu's traditional game jallikattu . Many debates came up when Tamil nadu's law permitted the stay on jallikattu.

Let us first know what is jallikattu?

Jallikattu

Jallikattu also known as salikkattu ,eruthazhuvuthal , Manju virattu is an traditional game in which a  bull , mostly of kangayam breed is released in a group of multiple people participating to grab the large hump of the bull with both their hands and hang on to it meanwhile the bull tries to escape.

Participants have to hang on to it until the bull come to a stop also in some cases participants must have to ride enough on the Bulls hump to bring the flags down.

This traditional game is practiced in some states of Tamil nadu.

Ban on jallikattu

Recently , The animal welfare board of India filled a case on the supreme court of India for the purpose of banning jallikattu because of the issues of animal cruelty and outrage threats among public safety.

The government of Tamil nadu on 27 November ,2010 was permitted by supreme court of India to allow jallikattu for 5 months in a year and also directed the district collectors to ensure the safety of animals on which the representative should register all the animals that participate in this event by which the district collectors with send their representative to for check the limitations of jallikattu event.

7 may , 2014 - supreme court banned altogether jallikattu

8 January ,2016 - ministry of environment and forests permitted the continution of jallikattu

14 January, 2016 - the supreme court of India put a stay on this order , upholding the ban

16 January , 2016 - the world youth organisation (WYO) protested at Chennai against the stay order on jallikattu by supreme court of India.

But on Tuesday that is 31 January,2017 The supreme court of India refused to Saturday the Tamil nadu's law permitting jallikattu but agreed to hear a plea against jallikattu.
